MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Government, community and industry partners promoted construction career opportunities to students at a career fair in Madison Wednesday.

It’s a multi-city tour to help inform America’s next infrastructure generation. The Careers in Construction fair features over a thousand high school students, organizations and experts to highlight the building trades’ opportunities for young people in south central Wisconsin.

Second year apprentice Melissa Fairbanks says high school is an important time to connect with students.

“I hope that the students can see that they have a future,” Fairbanks said. “That their future is a skill that they can learn, and it’s a career. So at 18 years old, they can have a career for the rest of their life that nobody can take away from them.”

The event will continue Thursday in Sun Prairie, where conversations will continue about how union-trained workers are preparing to meet the moment with major projects with the help of workforce investments.
